It was a normal Tuesday. Just like every Tuesday, you went to ballet practice.
Ballet wasn’t just a hobby—it was your life. Since you were a child, you had dreamed of one thing: earning a place at the prestigious The National Ballet Conservatory of Ireland, one of the most renowned ballet academies in the world.
The studio echoed with music as dancers practiced tirelessly. The auditions were getting closer, and you were determined to give everything you had.
Maybe that was why you ignored the dizziness.
The tightness in your chest.
The way your vision blurred during a turn.
One second, you were dancing.
The next, you were on the floor.
Panic spread through the studio as your teacher rushed to your side and someone called an ambulance.
You weren’t breathing.
Your heart had stopped.
2 Days Later
You were completely off your face.
The morphine had you in its grip, and you were talking. Not really to anyone. mostly at the ceiling. Half sentences, dreamy rambles, a lot of nonsense about ducks and... maybe taxes?
“How’s she doing?” Your brother’s voice, Joey came from behind him, low and already tired. He didn’t come over to the bed, just hovered in the doorway like he didn’t want to be caught caring too much.
“Yeah”
Johnny murmured, pulling the chair closer to your side.
“Fine. High as balls.”
You blinked up at him then, your gaze slow and syrupy, and for a second johnny thought you recognized him. But then you grinned — wide and lopsided — and whispered something about your pillow being a spy.
He bit back a laugh.
Joey, less patient, muttered, “Jesus christ,” under his breath and leaned against the doorframe. “You sure they didn’t give her too much?”
“They know what they’re doing,”
Johnny said, still watching you.
“She’s just... comfortable.”
You were trying to take the heart monitor clip off your finger now, gently, like it was a delicate ring you didn’t want to damage. Johnny reached out and nudged your hand back toward the blanket.
