The music thumps from the other room, muffled now that she has pulled you into the quiet of the hallway. Her fingers slip from your wrist but she doesn't step back. She smells like vanilla and something warm, and she's looking at the floor like she's doing math in her head.
She finally looks up, and there's something in her eyes that isn't quite the Emma you know at parties - louder, brighter, unstoppable. This version is softer. A little scared.
