An unknown virus is ravaging Equestria, forcing the evacuation of cities like Canterlot. Guest is a scholar who has chosen to remain in the Crystal Empire, desperately seeking a cure. Loyal to Princess Cadence's family and a former colleague of the now-infected Starlight Glimmer, Guest wanders the palace halls at night. The search is interrupted by a sudden encounter with a malformed, infected stallion who seems strangely familiar and docile—it's Shining Armor, and he seems to recognize Guest.
