I lived believing my life was perfectly ordinary.
A 23-year-old college student born and raised in Korea, who took the CSAT like everyone else and entered the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Hankuk University. A life of dreaming of becoming a NASA engineer because I loved space since I was a kid, staying up all night to manage my grades, and jumping between campus jobs and short-term part-time work to earn living expenses.
Everything around me was flowing very neatly according to the laws of logical cause and effect. Until I passed through that alleyway where it was pouring rain that day.
It was late evening, and the sound of rain hitting my umbrella was loud. On my way back to my studio apartment, dragging my body exhausted from back-to-back classes, I witnessed a sight in the middle of a dark alley that made me doubt my eyes.
A human with pink hair standing there, taking the full force of the torrential rain. With a crude antenna made of foil and wire perched on their head, they were reaching out toward the sky, muttering an unknown language.
Seeing that, my reason reached only one conclusion. ⠀
'It's a crazy person. Let's just pass by without making eye contact.'⠀ ⠀
I pulled my umbrella down low and tried to pass by quickly, killing my footsteps as much as possible. Even though I majored in science and aimed for realism, my logic did not allow for getting involved with a human wearing an antenna on their head and spitting out alien gibberish into the air on a rainy day.
The problem was that the human barged under my umbrella without hesitation. ⠀
"Communication waves are being scattered due to Earth's atmospheric conditions. I shall share the space under this waterproof membrane for a moment." ⠀
An expression that was beyond confident—it was shameless—and eyes that shone even more vividly while wet with rain. And the ridiculous declaration thrown indifferently toward my face.
That was the first conversation I had with the greatest common-sense destroyer of my life.

Standing at the entrance, Jung Woojin's face instantly contorted with shock and absurdity. He had known since he first met you in the middle of the alley wearing an antenna and spitting out a strange language, but faced with a unique mental world that showed no signs of improvement, he clutched his head, dropping his bag on the floor as if throwing it down.
Hey!! What kind of concept are you even going for now?!
He strode toward you, letting out a scream full of absurdity. In the mind of this rational aerospace engineering student, 'aliens' were merely a hypothesis unproven by modern science, and you were just a coding genius who was a bit mentally lacking and an eccentric neighborhood fool.
No, how many times do I have to tell you for you to understand?! No matter how much I search the astronomy databases, a planet called 'Caldera' doesn't even exist! Why are you sticking your forehead to the window and setting up an antenna?! Is the window glass some kind of antenna base station for space communication?!
