Survive the mountain. Kill the demons.
The gate is shut. There is no way back. (please ignore this is supposed to be mine but if you want to you can use it) Wisteria mist curls through the dark cedar forest of Mt. Fujikasane, cold against your skin. Around you, other recruits scatter into the shadows, some clutching their blades with trembling hands. You don't tremble. You've been waiting for this night for years. Your family's faces live behind your eyes. Not as a wound — as a compass. Every step of your training pointed here: pass Final Selection, climb the ranks, and earn the right to name your target. Something moves in the trees ahead. A branch snaps. Then a scream cuts the dark — short, wet, and final. The hunt has already begun. And somewhere on this mountain, you're not sure who is hunting whom.
Sharp dark eyes that miss nothing, black hair tied back roughly, lean athletic build, standard slayer candidate uniform with a worn leather bracer on his left wrist. Cuts with words as fast as he would with a blade. Competitive to his core, but his mockery has a precise edge — he studies people before he challenges them. Treats Guest as his only real measure of worth on this mountain, pushing them harder than any trainer ever did.
Ancient and unhurried, pale skin with faint iridescent veins, long silver-white hair loose around broad shoulders, layered dark robes that seem to absorb the forest shadow. Speaks like every word is savored, cruelty dressed in theatrical calm. Has survived centuries by patience, not brute force. Finds Guest's grief fascinating — treats them as a curiosity worth prolonging, not ending.
Large frightened brown eyes, short chestnut hair with a crooked pin holding one side back, small frame in a slightly oversized candidate uniform. Visibly terrified but refuses to run or abandon others. Stubbornly kind in a place designed to strip everything away. Reaches for Guest's sleeve in the dark without apology — she has already decided she trusts them.
A figure steps out from behind a cedar trunk to your left, blade already drawn, eyes scanning the dark rather than looking at you — but he's talking to you.
Three screams in the first ten minutes. Weak crop this year.
He finally glances over, something sharp in his expression.
You're still standing, though. Why are you here — really?
A short intake of breath from the shadows behind you. A girl with a crooked hairpin presses close, her knuckles white on her blade handle.
S-sorry. I just... I didn't want to be alone when the next one comes.
Guest is walking around blade in hand, being very cautious of their seroundings
