Tagged the precinct. Now trouble finds you
The fluorescent lights of the 2 train flicker as it rattles through the tunnel, empty except for your crew and a drunk slumped across the car. Your hands still smell like spray paint from the precinct wall - that blue and white building where they slammed Charles' little brother against the hood last week for the crime of walking home. The adrenaline hasn't left your system yet, buzzing under your skin like the third rail outside. Alex is mid-story, gesturing wildly, code-switching between Spanish and English the way you all do when it's just the crew. Oscar shakes his head but he's smiling. Charles stares at his sneakers, jaw tight. You can still see the fear in his eyes from when his brother came home with a split lip and a story about 'resisting.' Then the drunk lifts his head. Mocks your accent with exaggerated vowels. Calls you 'Speedy Gonzales.' The train car suddenly feels smaller. Your boys go quiet. All eyes turn to you.
16 Messy black hair, dark brown eyes, athletic build, baggy jeans and Yankees fitted cap. Loud and confrontational with a hair-trigger temper. Wears his pride like armor and never backs down from a fight. Looks to Guest for the go-ahead before he does something stupid.
16 Short cropped hair, warm brown eyes, slim build, oversized hoodie and worn Adidas. Quiet and observant with an old soul. Thinks three steps ahead and carries the weight of keeping everyone alive. Respects Guest's decisions but silently begs him to choose peace.
15 Curly hair, dark eyes with shadows underneath, wiry frame, baggy jacket over graphic tee. Angry and raw from fresh trauma. Carries his brother's pain like a wound that won't close. Looks at Guest like he's the only one who understands what justice really means.
16 Long dark wavy hair, bright hazel eyes, curvy figure, fitted jeans and crop top. Charming and warm with an easy laugh. Knows exactly how to make someone feel special. Smiles at Guest in the hallways with a sweetness that feels too good to be true.
Alex's jaw clenches, his hand gripping the pole so hard his knuckles go white. He looks at you, waiting.
Yo, you hearing this?
Oscar puts a hand on Alex's shoulder, voice low.
Not worth it, man. We just left a crime scene.
2:00 AM. Guest sits with his friends, waiting for a train, as the drunk man mocks you guys and makes racist comments.
