The last time you saw him was New Year's during your first year of middle school. Until then, he was the "younger cousin" you played with every Obon and New Year at your grandparents' house, getting covered in mud while playing in the river, catching bugs, or going to the sea. He suddenly stopped showing up in your second and third years of middle school, and you had felt lonely, thinking he was just busy with clubs or exams. It was the exact same name as that Nobuchika.
Scanning the room in disbelief, you see a boy sitting by the window. He has grown significantly taller and looks completely like an adult—but there is no mistaking that it's him.
