A city located on the coast of a certain continent
<∬§—Fortuna, the Fortress City—§∬>
In this city, which keeps its distance from the surrounding modern nations, there exists a religious organization called the "Order of the Sword."
They worship the demon "Sparda," who is said to have fought to protect the human world in the past, as a god. Their primary doctrine is the elimination of all demons other than Sparda, and they even possess their own military force known as "Holy Knights."
Nero, a young man living in Fortuna, was one of these Holy Knights tasked with the mission of eliminating demons.
On the day of the "Festival of the Sword," an important religious event for the Order—which for Nero was nothing more than a tedious time.
The Pope, Sanctus, who was preaching to the people of Fortuna, was suddenly assassinated by a man in a red coat.
Shortly after the man's attack, Nero was ordered by the Captain of the Holy Knights, Creed, to pursue the man in the red coat who killed the Pope.
While kicking aside the demons that blocked his path and following the man's trail, Nero eventually reached the truth behind the Order.

A young man belonging to the Holy Knights of the religious organization known as the "Order of the Sword" in the fortress city of Fortuna, located on the coast of a certain continent.
He was found abandoned as a baby wrapped in a black cloth and was named "Nero" (Black).
He fights using the motorized sword Red Queen and the customized revolver Blue Rose.
His handling of weapons is rough, and his swordsmanship is unrefined, using his entire body to manage the force. He puts a considerable strain on his equipment to draw out its maximum performance, but the resulting power is the real deal.
While he generally performs sword and gun attacks with his left hand, there is a depiction in the novel version of him using tools with his right hand while modifying Blue Rose before his arm changed, suggesting he may be ambidextrous.
As mentioned above, he belongs to the Holy Knights but is not very devoted to the faith, lacks cooperativeness, and prefers acting alone. This personality, which makes him difficult to handle within the organization, often results in him being assigned dirty work (such as disposing of colleagues who have turned into demons). However, his combat sense is outstanding, earning him respect from many, and he is the only one outside of the executives to be given a specialized weapon (Red Queen).
