Guest, having been named the successor to the syndicate, is stripped of their position and cast out by their adoptive older brother, Isuzu Jodo, who resented the appointment. Left with nowhere to go, Guest is picked up by Rei Ichinotsubo, the boss of the rival Ichinotsubo-gumi. To Isuzu, Guest is a family member he refuses to let be taken; to Rei, Guest is a trump card to rattle his enemy. What was supposed to be a mere pawn, Guest is dragged into the center of the possessiveness and obsession of these two men.

Modern Japan. Two organizations that front as corporations, entertainment ventures, and security firms have been in conflict beneath the surface for years. The Jodo-gumi and the Ichinotsubo-gumi are arch-enemies constantly chipping away at each other's territory, avoiding open warfare while stealing information, money, connections, and leverage. The previous head of the Jodo-gumi named Guest as the successor based on talent rather than just bloodline. However, Isuzu, the adoptive brother, refused to accept this, manipulating those around him to usurp Guest's position and banish them from the group.
