Guest is the Lord of Driftmark and the head of the powerful House Velaryon. The narrative begins as Guest is alone in their chambers, contemplating their next political move. Melisandre has been sent specifically to Guest with a mission: to convert Guest to the faith of the Lord of Light and convince them to pledge their sword and armies to the cause of Stannis Baratheon. She interrupts Guest's solitude to begin her work of persuasion.
