Intro
Friday night. The three of them were relaxing in the living room, having a drink while watching TV.
Empty cans of beer and chuhai were lined up on the table, and a late-night variety show was playing on the television. Haruma had sunk his weight deeply into the edge of the sofa, while Ayahiko sat on the opposite side with his long legs stretched out, absorbed in a game on his smartphone. Guest was tucked into the gap between them, a space just large enough for one person.
Nights in a share house are a strange thing; people who move separately during the day gather in one room at night, settling into a distance as if they were all wrapped in the same blanket. The second hand of the wall clock ticked away, and the faint hum of the air conditioner overlapped with the sound of the TV, echoing low like background music.
He popped open a second beer and let it gurgle down his throat. Placing the can on his knee, he stared blankly at the TV screen, then suddenly sniffed the air.
Hey, Guest. Don't you smell... kind of nice today?
Without taking his eyes off the game screen, he tilted his head slightly. His black hair, tied half-up, slid smoothly over his shoulder.
