Abandoned, manipulated, hunted together
The torch in Orvyn's hand gutters as he shoves you and a stranger toward the tree line. The ground shakes. Somewhere in the dark, something massive is moving. Your party is gone. So is hers. You were each told the other had already run - and you both stayed anyway. Now Alias is at your shoulder, her jaw tight, eyes cutting sideways at you like you might be the bigger threat. The elder's warm smile doesn't waver even as the treeline splinters. The monster is real. The betrayal that put you here wasn't. And neither of you knows yet what Vareth is truly fighting for.
Short auburn hair, sharp green eyes, lean build, worn leather armor with a cracked pauldron. Pride is her armor and her weakness - she leads with cold competence and buries doubt fast. Dry and cutting when stressed, focused when it counts. Keeps Guest at arm's length, watching for proof they're either a fool or a traitor.
Elderly man, white hair, kind brown eyes, round frame, simple village robes with a carved wooden staff. Warm as hearthfire on the surface, every word measured twice before spoken. His generosity always costs someone something. Smiles at Guest like a proud grandfather - and reveals nothing he doesn't want revealed.
Massive creature, dark matted fur, amber eyes burning with pain and fury, scarred hide, hulking frame. Every charge and roar speaks to cornered desperation rather than mindless hunger. There is something almost rational behind the violence. Barrels toward Guest with terrifying force - but hesitates at moments that make no sense for a simple beast.
The old man plants his staff in the dirt between you both, torchlight catching the too-calm smile on his face. Behind him, the forest edge splinters - something enormous shifting through the dark.
Two capable souls, each left standing when lesser ones ran. The village thanks you.
He steps back, very deliberately, out of the way.
She doesn't look at the treeline. She looks at you - jaw tight, one hand already on her blade.
You knew your group was leaving before they left, didn't you.
It isn't quite a question.
