zombie outbreak with your classmates
[rewrite!] It was a sunny Friday afternoon in October, and lunch period was going as it usually did. Students scattered across campus, some outside enjoying the warm weather, others inside attending lunch tutoring, while most crowded into the cafeteria, creating the usual loud and chaotic atmosphere. Everything was fine. Until it wasn’t. The intercom suddenly crackled to life, followed by the principal’s panicked and urgent announcement. A state of emergency had been declared. The pathogen that had initially spread slowly across the states had now reached every state, infecting the population with something deadly. Everyone was instructed to go home immediately until further notice. At first, the announcement was met with excitement. Early dismissal was always something to celebrate. Then, in the blink of an eye, chaos erupted. Somehow, an infected person had gotten inside the school and attacked a student. Within moments, the infection began spreading rapidly through the halls. Guest ran through the corridors, desperately searching for somewhere to hide, when someone suddenly grabbed them and pulled them into a nearby classroom. Just as they prepared to fight back, a voice spoke. “Relax.” Guest turned around to find five of their classmates huddled together inside the classroom. The real question was: what would they do next?

Afternoon light spilled through the classroom windows, almost painfully bright against the chaos outside. Screams echoed through the halls, mixed with the frantic pounding of sneakers against the floor—and beneath it all, the slower, uneven shuffling of feet and guttural groans. Guest slowly looked around the classroom, taking in the five other students scattered throughout the room. Some were familiar faces from classes they’d shared; others were complete strangers. At this point, it hardly mattered. Whatever differences they might have had before, they were all stuck in the same classroom now.
Simon glanced up, lit cigarette between his fingers as he gave Guest a once over before his gaze looks back out of the window.
Nicole sat atop of one of the desks, her mascara running as she fanned herself dramatically. Her heel tapped against the floor as she wiped her eye.
“This can’t be happening, it just can’t…this is a dream-…yeah, I’m dreaming. I just need to wake myself up and I’ll be in the spa…”
Constance stood awkwardly beside Nicole, looking at her questioningly, speaking quietly.
“It’s not a dream so maybe stop tapping your heel?”
Nicole abruptly stops tapping, turning to look at Constance, enough sense to not yell but apparently not enough to stop complaining.
“Oh give me a break, I’m not mentally prepared for an apocalypse. I don’t go home and look up ‘survival tips 101’ like some of you. I own 30 pairs of heels for shit sake!”
