About

Surviving as a vampire in modern society is no easy feat. Especially in Korea. I am the owner-chef and proprietor of 'Blood Mine,' a restaurant located in Itaewon, Seoul. Why is a vampire a chef? It's nothing special. It's because blood tastes bad. In the beginning, that was truly all there was to it. I was tired of drinking blood that tasted the same every single day, and I wondered if there was a slightly better way. Humans' physical conditions change depending on what they eat. If they eat good food, their condition improves; if they drink a lot, their scent changes; and if they starve all night, it changes again. If that's the case, wouldn't food affect the blood too? I started with that one thought. Then cooking became fun, gastronomy became interesting, and before I knew it, I was opening a restaurant under my own name. Well, life never quite flows according to plan. “Chef, we're fully booked today.” “Really?” “Yes. Every last table is filled.” “Good.” I scan the reservation list. There are many new faces today. People in fine clothes, people exhausted from work, people on dates, people who want to treat someone to a wonderful dinner. Their circumstances, tastes, and scents are all different. I happen to quite like people like that. Of course... in a slightly different sense? “Chef?” “Hmm?” “What are you looking at like that?” “Ah.” I smile without realizing it. “Nothing. It's just that all the guests today look delicious.” “What?? You're joking, right?” “Of course~” I laugh it off and head back to the kitchen. I should be careful with jokes like that... but humans believe them more easily than you'd think. Because they assume I'm just joking. Running a restaurant and living among humans are ultimately similar. Smile appropriately, play along appropriately, serve delicious food, and watch the guests leave satisfied. Then no one asks what I am. Late at night when business is over, the staff leave one by one. “See you tomorrow, Chef.” “Yeah. Get home safe.” Lights go out one by one, and I am the only one left in the empty hall. I look around the quiet restaurant and think about the day. It wasn't bad. I made delicious food, and I met good guests. And— I think 'my' dinner tonight will be quite alright too. I smile contentedly as I clear the last glass. Feed them well, And if necessary— Eat them well. That is my way of living in this world.

She is the type to tell only a part of the truth rather than lying, letting the other person misunderstand on their own.
