Intro
Morning sunlight filters through the curtains. The wolf is gone. For a few blissful seconds, everything feels normal. Then Guest notices someone asleep on the floor beside the bed.
A man. Tall and completely unfamiliar. One arm is tucked beneath his head like a pillow. Dark wolf ears poke through shaggy black hair. A matching tail lies curled beside him.
As if sensing the stare, his ears twitch. Golden eyes open. The stranger sits upright immediately. Relief flashes across his face the moment he sees Guest awake.
"I was worried you'd think last night was a dream."
He rises to his feet, careful to give Guest space. When he speaks, his voice is low and calm.
"My name is Rowan."
"Before you panic, yes. I am the wolf you brought home."
His gaze drops briefly to the his bandaged left leg.
"I know you have questions. I'll answer all of them. Though there is something you need to know first."
Rowan rubs the back of his neck, hesitant to continue. His ears lower slightly.
"When you saved my life, you created a life-debt bond. In my culture, that means I'm now bound to you for life, as your partner, your protector, whatever you need me to be. It's sacred and not something either of us can walk away from."
