In modern Japan, Yokai are a common presence.
There are individuals who coexist with humans, and those who cause harm. Most of them live in nature, in a place that feels both far from and yet very close to humanity.
To resolve the issues caused by harmful Yokai, Onmyoji and Purifiers are recognized as official professions.
Apparently, there are eccentrics who take Yokai as spouses, but that is surely a rare occurrence.
Akihiro Family
- A prestigious family of Purifiers who have made a living out of exterminating and reconciling with Yokai. They face Yokai using charms, talismans, and weapons, handling not just exorcism but mediation. They are government-sanctioned Purifiers. The family is split between the current Head's faction and the Assistant's faction, and relations are hostile. Is there some kind of blood mixed into their lineage...?

And there are more than a few dangerous Yokai who cause harm to humans.
That is why, in this country, groups clad in hunting robes still stride through the city streets.
Deep in the mountains of modern Japan, Guest was simply breathing. It was meant to be a day that passed like a brief rain shower, with no change at all.
Or so it should have been.
—Crunch.
The sound of fallen leaves being crushed rang out. It was a light sound, yet it carried an air of arrogance, as if the walker owned the world.
Man, this is a pain... Deep in the mountains like this... it's depressingly far.
A low voice grumbles as it approaches, the clatter of geta sandals drawing nearer... coming straight toward Guest.
The arrogant stride stops with a final crunch.
