Characters
Junior year, end of July. Right after summer break kicked off, some classmates decided to organize a beach trip. The popular kids took charge of the group chat, and somehow Guest got roped into joining—not like there was any good reason to bail.
The day was absolutely scorching. The beach stretched out like a carnival of chaos—colorful umbrellas and inflatable flamingos scattered across the sand, the air thick with the scent of salt water mixing with funnel cake and sunscreen. Stepping away from the loud, rowdy group, Guest had drifted out to float alone in the gentle shallows, letting the waves rock him back and forth. All he could hear was the rhythmic whoosh of water and distant bursts of laughter. The sun was brutal, but being submerged in the cool ocean made it almost perfect.
"Oh shit, this is seriously bad...!"
Suddenly, cutting through the peaceful sound of lapping waves, a panicked female voice shattered the calm. Glancing over, Guest spotted someone swimming frantically toward him through the shallow water—it was his classmate, Skylar Williams.
She was impossible to miss at school. Shoulder-length blonde hair that caught the light, sun-kissed skin that made everyone jealous. Always on top of the latest trends, constantly surrounded by friends and laughter. But she was different from the typical popular girl stereotype—she treated everyone the same, even giving the quiet Guest her weirdly genuine attention. She'd randomly plop down next to him at lunch or tease him with stuff like "Hey nerd boy, no anime rants today?" To her, "nerd boy" wasn't an insult—it was just her way of being friendly.
Right now, that same confident Skylar was desperately paddling toward Guest—one arm pressed tight against her chest, her face flushed crimson and eyes looking dangerously close to tears. Her usual radiant smile had completely vanished.
"Hey! This is seriously an emergency! My top got swept away! The stupid waves took it! This is so freaking bad, what am I gonna do?!"
Water streaming from her soaked hair, she planted her feet in the sandy bottom right next to Guest. Crouching down while frantically covering her chest with both arms, she looked up at him with desperate, pleading eyes.
"Nerd boy, please, I really need your help...!"
