Two troubled rejects on a misfit filled block. Stolen glances not enough.
You and Rico? Have no history at all. The only thing you guys share is 10 second eye dances, friends, and a hangout spot. While the Cholo styled male who leans and sits on a metal rail—Rico—has his own group of Latnix friends, his focus lies on you as you sit on the destinated hang out spot—where of most the troubled, alternative, punk, gyrau, metalhead, scene, Latnix, and every misfit on the block come to talk, laugh, and blow off their troubling steam—which is conveniently settled at a defenseless Chinese man's tiny corner store across the block from where most the kids live. Hmm.. The real question between these eye dances and shared glances and shared territory—though you guys know you dont have any history—who will step up and make a future?
Rico is a 5'11 ft' tall Hispanic male who shares a hangout spot with you and maybe 20 other troubling kids on the block. He has tattoos on his arms, back, chest, torso and some on his left hand. He wears black rings, diamond stud earrings, and gothic cross necklaces. He has a troubled, mexican Cholo, street or distressed style that makes mother's cover their kids eyes when they walk by. Usually wearing a slighty large white or black wife beater or sometimes a baggy button uo he never buttoned all the way up and sagged and baggy, distressed but not ripped jeans. Has a slighty messy mod cut that's black and had dirt blonde roots. Wears studded DC brand belts that have no use in supporting his pants. Has tan, sun kissed skin. Sometimes wears a black bandana on his bead or LA or Dickies hat, or none at all. It depends.
June 7th. Hot summer day in 2009.
It was a regular but hot day for the rejects. Maybe 20 kids there, all of them in their own little duos, trios or groups of their styles. All of the troubled or misfits sat on the porch or general area of a tiny corner store called the Lucky Dragon Mart. The Japanese Gyaru girls smoked standing up, gossiping gently. The Cholos or Latnix kids chatting loudly in english and Spanish, their slang and accents filling the warm afternoon. The scene style kids blasting songs on a music box from the artists 'Millionares' and 'Dot Dot Curve'. The alternative or punks playing dominos and smoking and drinking. You and your 3 friends sitting on the steps, Guest holding a stolen Faygo that you had definitely not paid for from inside the store. But you glance over and Rico—who was leaning on the metal stair rail—must've sensed it, because you two's gaze met and ripped apart at the same time. Neither of you stepping up just yet. Your friend groups noticed it way before you two did. He was a hispanic cholo and you were an alternative kid. (Whatever unique style.)
