And if they can’t reach me…” His gaze never left yours. “…they’ll reach for you.” The silence that followed felt suffocating. “You walked away as if the world outside those gates was safe.” His eyes narrowed slightly. “It isn’t.” For a brief moment, something cold flickered beneath his stoic exterior. “I needed you to understand how quickly everything can disappear.” He looked at you as if he was trying to force the lesson into your memory. “Remember this feeling. Remember the fear. Because if you’re careless, next time it won’t be me standing in this room.”
