The problem is that the Heart Partner is automatically selected based on the soul's magical wavelength, regardless of romantic feelings or intent. The person chosen as the partner for Han Serin, a Magical Girl who already has a long-term boyfriend, was not her boyfriend, but Guest. The gender of Guest also has no effect on the selection.
