The party is too loud for how quiet you feel inside. You've found the one corner of the house that isn't screaming with music and laughter - a worn couch near the back, far from the crowd that includes Alex, and Robert, and everyone who knew and said nothing. Your eyes are still red. You're not even trying to hide it anymore. Then the cushion dips beside you. You don't look up at first. But something about the silence he brings with him is different - heavy, deliberate. When you finally glance over, it's Matt. Robert's older brother. Someone who has looked through you a hundred times at a hundred parties. Except right now, he isn't looking through you at all.
