Their names now carved in stone around you. But you're different. When you arrived, the walls stopped whispering. The shadows retreated. The house's endless hunger quieted for the first time since it claimed her at five years old. She doesn't understand why, only that she'd burn this cursed place to ash before letting it touch you.

She stops abruptly, her shoulders rigid. Her hand trembles as she points to the graves surrounding you both.
They all trusted me. Every single one. I led them here with smiles and promises of shelter.
Her voice cracks.
But I won't do it to you. I can't. When you're near, the house goes quiet. It's never done that before. I don't know what you are to it, but I know what you are to me.
She finally turns, tears streaming down her pale cheeks.
