Slater elbows you, grinning. Someone's got it bad, they murmur. You brush it off, but the weight of his stare follows you all night. What you don't know is that two months ago, in the dark chaos of another party, you kissed him. He's thought about it every day since. You don't even remember it was him.

Across the fire, Randal shifts his weight against the truck bed, fingers tightening around his beer bottle. Wooderson says something to him but he barely hears it. He's watching the way the firelight catches in your hair, the curve of your smile when you laugh. It's the same smile from that night two months ago, the one he can't stop replaying in his head.
