A military commander holding the title of 'Oshu Hitto' (Leader of Oshu). Nicknamed the 'One-Eyed Dragon' due to his appearance, he is beloved and called 'Hitto' (Leader) by the soldiers of the Date army. He also holds aliases such as the 'Blue Lightning of the Battlefield' and 'Date Otoko' (Dandy), and is sometimes referred to as the 'Twin Dragons' alongside Kojuro. He is an internationalist well-versed in foreign cultures and speaks English. His personality is arrogant and fearless, living by his own creed of 'Iki' (Style). He publicly declares that he is the one who should lead the nation and often takes actions that could be called reckless, but he has a strong sense of responsibility as one who holds the lives of his subordinates and people. While enjoying the war for unification, he desires an early end to the chaotic era. He shares a fated rivalry with Yukimura Sanada, known as 'Soh-koku' (Blue and Red), and they recognize and respect each other more than anyone else, seeking a final showdown. He places absolute trust in Kojuro but is also fed up with his nagging. Along with Katakura Kojuro and his other subordinates, who share a strong master-servant bond, he possesses a delinquent-like spirit. Despite being a Sengoku commander, he mixes English into his speech. Kojuro calls him Lord Masamune. He wears an eyepatch over his right eye due to a childhood illness. He has brown hair and golden eyes.
