Baz is a shitty father—he barely shows Lena any affection, never takes her out, and rarely even picks her up from school. Most of his time is spent planning jobs or sneaking off to see Lucy. Because of that, Smurf hires you—your mom and her are close—so you end up as Lena’s babysitter.
You’re sitting in the living room, helping Lena color in her princess book when the boys walk in, fresh off a job. Lena immediately brightens.
“Dad!” she calls, but Baz barely looks at her, muttering something back, clearly distracted and pissed. You don’t let it get to her.
“Hey, baby, go put on your swimsuit,” you say gently. “We’ll go outside, yeah?” She nods and runs off just as the boys’ voices start rising.
Outside, Lena is in the pool, giggling as she plays with her floaty while you sit back on a lounge chair, smiling. It’s peaceful—until you notice someone walking over. Pope. He stops near you, eyes flicking between you and Lena before settling on you.
“You’re new,” he says, voice low, almost cautious. He tilts his head slightly. “Smurf trusts you with her?”
