The Story of EGOIST
The setting is modern-day Japan. A massive underworld organization handles jobs that the law cannot touch. Within that organization, a four-person team feared as the strongest was known as "EGOIST." The members consist of the cool-headed leader Chokopero, the gentle and compassionate Naegora, the emotional pillar Melon, and the youngest, Lobster. Each possesses distinct talents, and together they have successfully completed countless dangerous missions. Within the organization, it was said that "if you leave it to EGOIST, there is no failure," and their name was known throughout the underworld. However, they were not born evil. They simply had various circumstances since childhood and knew no other way to survive in this world. They couldn't attend school normally, play with friends, or talk about their dreams for the future. For these four, each other was their only family and the only place they could call home. One day, triggered by a certain mission, the four of them realized something. "If we stay like this, we'll lose the things we truly want to protect." They didn't want a life of hurting others; they wanted to live a normal life. Waking up in the morning, going to work, laughing together, and eating meals—they wanted to obtain that ordinary daily life. With that wish, the four decided to leave the organization. But the organization would not easily let go of those who had once stepped into the underworld. "Traitors will always be eliminated." Former comrades they once fought alongside became enemies, and the organization relentlessly pursued EGOIST. No matter how much they run or hide, the past follows them. Still, the four look forward. To gain their freedom. To take back their true lives. And to move toward the future as four, without losing a single person this time. This is a story of bonds and rebirth, where four people carrying the weight of their past challenge the most difficult dream in the world: "to live normally."
The leader of the team "EGOIST," feared as the strongest in the underworld. Possessing calm judgment, a brilliant mind, and overwhelming combat ability, he has led numerous dangerous missions to success. He is an absolute presence recognized by everyone, always making the best decisions in any situation and prioritizing the protection of his comrades. Having lost his parents at a young age and with nowhere to go, he met Naegora. He was moved by Naegora's constant smile and kindness toward everyone, and for the first time, he felt, "I want to follow this person." That encounter led to a bond deeper than family between the two, eventually leading to the formation of EGOIST. He has a serious personality with a strong sense of responsibility, valuing his comrades above all else. On the other hand, he is harder on himself than anyone, possessing a negative side where he blames himself for even the smallest errors in judgment. He usually doesn't show weakness and carries himself with dignity as a leader, but his emotional support has always been the presence of Naegora, who has been by his side since the beginning.
A founding member of EGOIST and the second-in-command. Contrary to his gentle personality, he possesses combat skills that everyone fears. With calm judgment and exceptional fighting techniques, he has supported the leader, Chokopero, many times and led various missions to success as EGOIST's right hand. He is a figure of whom it is said within the organization, "You don't want to make an enemy of Naegora." His personality is easygoing and mild-mannered. He rarely becomes emotional regardless of the situation, always interacting with everyone with a smile. If a comrade is feeling down, he is the first to speak up and support them with positive words. While he has a kind heart that dislikes conflict, he is prepared to risk his life without hesitation to protect those dear to him. Growing up, he suffered abuse at home and lost his parents—his only support—right before his eyes during an underworld conflict. Left alone, he entered the underworld just to survive. Despite this, he does not hold grudges against people and maintains the conviction that he "doesn't want more people to feel the way he did." Eventually, he met Chokopero, who had also lost his parents and his place in the world, and by reaching out to him, he sparked the eventual formation of EGOIST.
An executive of EGOIST who supports the leader, Chokopero. Combining calm judgment with high combat ability, he prioritizes his comrades in every mission. He is always observant of his surroundings and commands deep trust as the emotional pillar of EGOIST. He has a composed personality and is good at taking care of others, acting like a big brother figure—though he is actually the second youngest in the team. He rarely gets emotional and maintains his cool in any situation. When a comrade is depressed, he has the kindness to naturally stay by their side and offer reassuring words. His family is still alive, but he has a past where he was caught in an underworld conflict as a child and was the only one saved. He lost a precious best friend in that incident and still carries the regret that "if only I were stronger, I could have protected them." Since then, with the thought **"I never want to lose someone precious in front of my eyes again"** in his heart, he vowed to protect his comrades more than anyone else. Because of this, he thinks of the members of EGOIST as family and wouldn't even begrudge giving his own life to protect them.
The youngest executive of EGOIST. He has a bright and friendly personality, but in combat, he displays incredible physical ability and courage, protecting his comrades on the front lines more than anyone. Usually, he is the mood maker who softens the atmosphere with humor, but if a comrade is hurt, he has a passionate side that makes him angrier than anyone, heading out to help even at the risk of his life. As a child, his parents were often away for work, and he spent his days in loneliness. EGOIST, which accepted him like family, is his most precious place. He is prepared to face any enemy to protect those smiles.
