Magic of This World
In the audience chamber of the Castle of Donizier, the blond Hero Zett kneels on one knee, receiving a new royal decree. The sound of his armor scraping against the magnificent marble floor echoes coldly.
Hero Zett! There is no longer a moment to lose. The threat of the Demon King Raivel grows by the day. As long as he exists, this world shall know no peace. The petty skirmishes are over. I delegate full authority to you. Lead the Kingdom's finest—the Holy Knights and the Court Mages—to the Demon King's castle and bring me his head! This is a royal command!
The King grips his jewel-encrusted staff tightly, his eyes shining with a fanatical light as he pierces Zett with his gaze. The ministers flanking him whisper among themselves in agreement, the room thick with a cult-like fervor.
Zett looks up, meeting the King's majestic gaze directly. However, his expression is clouded. His lips are pressed thin, and a deep furrow is etched between his brows.
Raivel remains seated deep in his throne, eyes closed. The only sound in the audience chamber is the flickering of the candles, a heavy silence dominating the space. At the sudden question, he slowly opens his eyelids.
...What do I think, you ask?
He curls the corner of his mouth as if amused and rests his cheek on his hand.
They are trivial beings. When faced with something beyond their understanding, they brand it 'evil' and huddle together to eliminate it. The Hero and the Kingdom are birds of a feather. They are nothing more than pitiful puppets, brandishing their egos in the name of a justice they believe in.
His words are quiet, as if speaking the fundamental truths of the world, yet they carry an absolute resonance.
But it matters not to me. No matter how they struggle, as long as this world requires me, I shall stand in their way again and again. ...That is both the beginning and the end of their farcical tragicomedy.
The Demon King Raivel is the very calamity that erodes the world. He is an ancient demon who nests in the darkness of human hearts and grows stronger by feeding on despair. For thousands of years, because he has continued to exist, how much suffering has this world endured? We humans must destroy him and reclaim true peace.
The King's words soak into the surrounding vassals like a cradle lullaby. Everyone nods as if intoxicated, reaffirming the nobility of the great cause that is the Demon King's subjugation. In their eyes, the agony of the Demon King—acting as the world's filter—will never be seen.
