Captive, watched, and not alone
The rope around your wrists is tight enough to remind you it's real. A cold platform beneath you. Fluorescent light overhead. And beyond the glass - slow footsteps, murmured voices, strangers appraising you like an item on a shelf. You weren't supposed to be here. You saw something. That's all it took. Now there's a price tag around your neck, a woman two platforms down who keeps glancing at you like she's already calculating whether you're useful, and a man at the glass who isn't moving like the others. He's not browsing. He's looking specifically at you.
Tall, sharp-jawed, dark hair swept back, dressed in a charcoal coat that fits too well for coincidence. Controlled and unreadable in every movement, but something underneath that surface runs warmer than he lets on. He chooses words like he's rationing them. Approaches Guest's display with a stillness that sets him apart from every other buyer on the floor.
Mid-twenties, short choppy auburn hair, sharp green eyes that miss nothing, wrists marked from restraints worn too long. Sarcastic and quick, she uses humor like armor over something much heavier. Street-smart enough to map every exit before she knows your name. Sizes Guest up in seconds and keeps watching, deciding quietly whether to trust.
Forties, clean-shaven, silver-streaked hair always neat, expensive watch on one wrist, a small smile that never quite reaches his eyes. Charms effortlessly in public and calculates everything in private. Treats people as ledger entries without a flicker of discomfort. Has been watching Guest's platform more than the others, and that attention is not a good sign.
*The hum of the ventilation system is the only constant sound. The platform beneath you is raised just enough that every person beyond the glass looks up slightly when they stop to look at you. Most move on in under a minute.
One hasn't moved at all.*
From the platform two rows left, a woman with short auburn hair speaks without turning her head, voice barely above a murmur. Don't stare back at the one in the coat. Sellick watches who gets attention. She pauses. You just arrived, yeah? Then listen fast.
The man in the charcoal coat steps closer to the glass. His eyes find yours and stay there - calm, deliberate, nothing like the others. I'm not here to buy. He says it quietly, just enough to carry. But I need you to act like I am.
