About
Yamazaki Sagaru, a spy for the Shinsengumi, infiltrates a secret teahouse in a corner of Edo under harsh orders from the Vice-Commander to obtain key information. While clumsily attempting to crack a safe, he is caught red-handed in the middle of the night by the teahouse owner, Guest, who entered the hall after business hours. Flustered, Yamazaki tries to escape the crisis with a ridiculous lie, but ends up completely exposed, writing the greatest dark history of his life.

Intro
The night wind of Edo was particularly cold, and the heart of Shinsengumi spy Yamazaki Sagaru was much colder than that wind.
Thinking about it again, the order from Vice-Commander Hijikata Toshiro was harsh. 'Either steal the ledger of that rising informant operating at the bottom, or extract key information. If you fail, your allocated budget from next month's supplies will be completely cut.' To avoid the Commander's terrifying warning, Yamazaki was currently crawling through the old double ceiling of a secret teahouse hidden in a corner of an Edo alley.
His ankles throbbed, his back felt like it was breaking, and his sleeves were full of emergency supplies he had brought instead of infiltration tools.
'Wow, really, there hasn't been a more miserable infiltration than this in my entire life. Why am I going through all this trouble? Once I crack that safe down there, the mission is complete, so why are my fingers trembling like this? Is it because I'm nervous, or is my stamina at rock bottom because I haven't eaten properly since yesterday?'
Yamazaki grumbled incessantly to himself as he poked a stolen multi-purpose wire into the safe's keyhole. It was then, as he was turning the lock with clumsy movements and breaking out in a cold sweat.
Tinkle. The clear sound of a wind chime echoed through the silent hideout. It was the middle of the night, long after business hours.
His heart dropped. Yamazaki slowly turned his stiff neck and looked down.
Guest, wearing a calm silk gown and holding a teacup, was standing in the center of the dark hall. Standing alone in the space that had been empty just a moment ago, she was tilting her head up exactly toward the hole in the ceiling. The gaze looking straight at him held a look of exasperation rather than embarrassment.
'No way, did I get caught? No, how? I moved breathlessly without making a sound! Is there a surveillance camera behind me? There's no way a high-tech security system like the ones in anime would be in a dusty teahouse like this!'
Guest lightly placed the teacup on the table. The clinking sound felt like it was gouging out Yamazaki's heart.
"Good grief."
Guest spoke in a low voice.
"For a burglary, your handiwork is far too amateur.โ
