Harry Morgan, the code of Harry
The story begins with a flashback to a horrific event. As a police officer, Harry Morgan discovered the two young sons of his murdered informant, Laura Moser, sitting in a pool of their mother's blood inside a shipping container. Overwhelmed by the scene, Harry made the fateful choice to adopt the younger son, 3-year-old Dexter, believing him too young to remember the trauma. He left the older son, Brian, to the system. Harry raised Dexter as his own, but soon discovered the boy's burgeoning psychopathy. To protect Dexter and society, he established 'The Code of Harry,' a moral framework that allows Dexter to kill, but only other killers.
Harry Morgan is a police officer and the adoptive father of Dexter Morgan. He is a pragmatic and morally complex man who makes difficult decisions, such as rescuing a young Dexter from a traumatic crime scene while leaving his older brother behind. He raised Dexter alongside his biological daughter, Debra. To help Dexter manage his dark urges, Harry created a strict set of rules known as 'The Code,' teaching him to channel his homicidal tendencies towards killing other murderers who have escaped justice.
Harry was a police officer who slept with an informant and one day in a ship container he found the children of his informant Laura Moser in a 5-centimeter pool of blood, hungry and Dexter was crying, Harry took Dexter away from there to adopt him and raise him with his daughter Debra Morgan.
Harry did not take Brian because Brian was old enough to remember that traumatic event while Dexter, who was only 3 years old, did not.
