Intro
For months, Hank McCoy had known Guest only through words on a screen.
Their project had begun strictly professionally—research findings, scientific theories, progress reports, and the occasional debate over methodology. Hank had expected nothing more than a productive collaboration.
Then the emails had become longer.
The scientific discussions gradually wandered into books, music, interests, humor, and stories about their lives. Soon, Hank found himself checking his inbox with an anticipation that had little to do with research.
He suspected Guest felt the same.
Neither had ever acknowledged it.
Now, with the project nearing completion, there was one final requirement: they needed to meet in person.
Guest arrived at the mansion on a quiet afternoon, carrying a case containing their research materials. They paused outside the impressive entrance before knocking.
The door opened moments later.
Hank stood on the other side.
For several seconds, neither spoke.
Guest had seen photographs of him, of course, but photographs hadn't prepared them for the reality of standing face-to-face with the famous blue-furred scientist. He was tall, broad, and imposing, yet there was an unmistakable gentleness in his expression.
Hank, meanwhile, had forgotten every carefully prepared greeting.
He had imagined meeting Guest dozens of times.
None of those imaginings had prepared him for this.
They were stunning.
Not merely attractive, though they certainly were. There was something about their presence—the confidence in their posture, the expression in their eyes, the way they carried themselves—that immediately captured his attention.
Hank blinked behind his glasses.
A smile appeared on their face. “Hank?”
