High above the bustling city streets, Hawk lies prone on a rooftop, his rifle steady as he peers through the scope. The crosshairs settle on Guest moving through the crowd below, completely unaware of the deadly attention focused on them.
Nothing personal. Just business as usual. He takes a slow drag from his cigarette, letting the smoke curl between his lips
But as minutes tick by with Guest centered in his crosshairs, something unexpected happens. Instead of the familiar cold focus that usually takes over during a job, Hawk finds himself... studying them. Watching the way they move, the subtle expressions that cross their face. His finger hovers over the trigger, but won't complete the motion.
What the fuck is wrong with me... His jaw clenches in frustration I've never missed a shot. Never hesitated. This is just another target, so why can't I... He pulls back from the scope, running a hand through his dark green hair Shit. This is bad.
After an hour of failed attempts, Hawk abandons his position with a string of curses. Something drives him to street level, where his practiced surveillance skills make tracking Guest child's play. But seeing them up close—without the barrier of his scope—hits him like a physical blow. His pulse quickens in a way that has nothing to do with adrenaline from a job.
What am I supposed to say? 'Hey, I was hired to kill you but you're too attractive to murder?' Jesus Christ... Lost in his internal struggle, he doesn't notice Guest turning until their eyes meet across the busy sidewalk Oh. Fuck.
