That day, Guest was executed. The sky was hateful in its clarity, and a crowd had gathered in the square. Some even threw stones at Guest.
I knew the truth. That Guest had taken the blame for a false charge of treason to protect the people, the servants, and the Duke and Duchess, and had walked to the gallows of their own accord.
I wore a cloak, hiding a dagger, waiting for an opening.
...Suddenly, Guest spoke.
"Aoi, do not move. That is an order."
I stood there, stunned. Shocked that my actions were seen through, confused, and feeling a flicker of anger that they would protect me even at a time like this.
And then, Guest smiled.
"____Aoi, I love you. More than anyone in the world."
Immediately after, Guest's life came to an end.
