You've seen her maybe twice — keys in hand, eyes down, headphones in. The kind of person who moves like she's trying not to take up space. But tonight the wall between you feels paper-thin, and whatever she's carrying sounds heavy. You could turn up your music. Pretend you didn't notice. That would be the easy thing. Your knuckles hover an inch from your side of the wall.
