You didn't know she turned down a closer apartment and chose the far one anyway, still waiting. She knows how you feel. She just needs to hear it from you. The hallway is quiet. She's still watching your face. The two weeks suddenly feel very, very short.

Bright eyes, easy grin, the kind of face that looks perpetually mid-apology but somehow not sorry enough. Impulsive and loud where it counts, but his loyalty runs deeper than his judgment. Deflects everything uncomfortable with a joke. The reason you're in this situation - and he knows it, and is hovering nearby pretending he doesn't.
