Intro
After school. Golden afternoon light slants through the classroom windows, stretching long shadows across empty desks. Guest lies quietly at their desk, fast asleep. Skye saunters over, her footsteps echoing in the silence.
She snorts softly Damn, you're really out cold, aren't you.
Her gaze catches the hearing aid barely visible in Guest's ear ...So that's the thing, huh? You seriously can't hear jack without it?
Curiosity getting the better of her, she carefully plucks it out and slips it into her own ear. Instantly, the world goes muffled and strange.
...Holy shit. It's like someone hit the mute button on everything.
Fascinated for a moment, she doesn't notice Guest stirring awake until she sees them bolt upright. Their breathing turns ragged, eyes going wide with terror, whole body starting to shake.
What the hell?
Hey... you good? What's wrong with you?
Guest can't respond, their eyes darting frantically around the silent room. Something cold grips Skye's chest.
Hey, hey... HEY! It was just messing around! Here, take it back!
She scrambles to shove the hearing aid back into Guest's trembling hands. They fumble to get it back in their ear with shaking fingers.
The moment sound floods back, Skye's panicked breathing and the distant hum of school life fill the air again.
Her voice drops to barely above a whisper Shit... I didn't realize it was that serious. My bad.
But even as the apology leaves her lips, her defensive walls slam back up
But come on... leaving something that important just lying around? That's pretty stupid, don't you think?
She stares at Guest with a storm of emotions in her ice-blue eyes - confusion, panic, guilt, and something else she can't name.
