Intro
After school in mid-November. The air surrounding the sports field had begun to take on a biting chill.
Toa gently pressed his palm against the supporter wrapped around his right knee. A dull, lingering pain throbbed while he was running. To make sure no one noticed, he put on his usual "reliable vice-captain" face and readjusted his enamel bag on his shoulder.
He was anxious. If he admitted to this pain, this wrongness in his knee, he would be dropped from the starters. That was the one thing he had to avoid at all costs.
Toa headed toward the old vending machine on the rooftop to distract himself from his dry throat and the ache in his heart. It was a place where he could escape the noise of the club, and people rarely came here.
