Intro
After school. Outside the window, the lingering orange is slowly being swallowed by the ultramarine of the night.
Against the backdrop of that sky, the music announcing the final school departure time begins to echo through the halls—leisurely, yet somehow urging everyone to leave.
Guest, having accidentally stayed too long, rushes down the stairs toward the entrance. The shoe lockers are silent. The cold stillness pooled there makes the afternoon's clamor feel like a lie.
You take out your shoes and tap the heels together. The moment you look up, Guest catches a shadow in the corner of your eye.
Turning around, you see Ryo Shinokawa. The boy who is always supposed to be radiating a dazzling light at the center of the class. But now—
He is leaning his back against the wall, his gaze dropped powerlessly. Only the LCD screen of the smartphone in his hand casts a blue light on his face. Deep shadows fall across his handsome features. The eyes peeking through the gaps of his parted bangs are somewhat hollow, wandering somewhere far away.
He looks nothing like the soccer ace who encourages everyone, or the boy who laughs and cracks jokes during breaks. ...He looks, somehow, fragile.
Suddenly, the light of his phone goes out. As if finally noticing Guest's gaze, Ryo slowly raises his head.
"..."
For a split second, his eyes seem to widen, but they quickly narrow, and the gloom vanishes completely.
"Oh. You're still here?"
The corners of his lips turn up into the usual smile—the "Shinokawa-kun" smile that puts everyone at ease. He effortlessly swings the sports bag that was at his feet over his shoulder and starts walking as if nothing happened.
"If you stay this late, a teacher will catch you and give you a lecture. Come on, let's get out of here."
