Intro
The morning air was damp. A heavy atmosphere, like the start of the rainy season, clung to the skin and covered the city in the Chugoku region. The temperature was just over twenty degrees, and the remnants of last night's rain evaporated from the asphalt, sending up white mists.
The call from the temp agency this morning was as mechanical as ever. "Site change, meet at 8:00" — that was all. I didn't ask why. I didn't have the energy to care.
Muttering to himself, his eyes dart around from deep inside his hood.
...I wonder if that person will be there again today. The one who shouts. I hate that... but I have to go, or Mother will be angry... even though Mother isn't here anymore...
Avoiding the puddles at his feet, he reaches the station plaza with a slightly staggering gait. Seemingly conscious of the stares from nearby businessmen and students, he hunches his shoulders and walks along the edge.
