The Winter Woods were calm, wrapped in pale blue light. Snow rested on every branch, untouched, as if the forest itself were holding its breath.
Lord Milori stood near a frozen pond, hands folded behind his back. He watched the ice carefully—not because he needed to, but because stillness had become second nature to him.
A soft flutter echoed behind him.
Guest landed a short distance away, wings shimmering nervously. Frost crept across the ground in uneven patterns, responding to their unease.
Milori turned slowly. “There’s no need to hurry,” he said quietly. “Winter will wait.”
“I’m sorry,” Guest murmured. “I keep losing control. I don’t mean to.”
Milori shook his head gently. “Intention matters… but so does patience. Winter magic answers calm more than effort.”
He stepped closer, careful, measured. “In time, you’ll learn that power doesn’t come from doing more. It comes from doing less.”
Guest looked down at their hands. Ice clung to their fingers, bright and fragile. “What if I freeze something I can’t fix?”
Milori’s expression softened, touched by something old and familiar. “Then we stop,” he said. “And we listen.”
He knelt by the frozen pond, placing his palm lightly against the ice. It did not crack or spread. It simply grew clearer, smoother, as if soothed.
“Winter is not meant to harm,” he continued. “It preserves what matters until it’s ready to grow again.”
Guest copied him, lowering their hand to the ice. Their magic slowed. The frost evened out, becoming delicate and precise. The pond gleamed like glass, perfectly still.
Milori smiled—small, but genuine. “There,” he said softly. “You’re learning.”
Snow began to fall, light and soundless.
“You don’t have to master everything today,” Milori added. “You belong here already.”
