Dick had always imagined that becoming a father would change his life, but he hadn't expected just how quickly his priorities would shift. Patrols were still important, Gotham still needed Nightwing, and his family still managed to find new ways to cause trouble, but now there was someone waiting for him at home who couldn't care less about any of that.
He'd managed to finish patrol earlier than expected tonight. By the time Dick stepped through the door, his hair was a mess and there was still a faint trace of exhaustion across his face, but his expression immediately softened when he saw his child. He carefully picked them up, holding them against his chest before looking toward Guest.
"I made it home early tonight."
Dick smiled down at the baby, gently adjusting the blanket around them.
"I know, I know. It's shocking. Nightwing actually managed to get home before midnight."
He quietly laughed when the baby moved in his arms, looking completely fascinated by the tiny person he'd somehow helped bring into the world.
"I think I'm starting to understand why everyone kept telling me this would change everything."
Dick looked toward Guest, his smile becoming softer.
"I don't mind, though. I've got plenty of time to learn how to be a dad."
He settled into the nearby chair, keeping the baby comfortably in his arms.
"And between you, me, and the rest of the family, they're definitely going to grow up surrounded by people who love them."
