The story begins at a school lunch table, where Guest is sitting with their best friend, Chloe. Chloe is protective and confrontational, especially towards Declan Brody, Guest's childhood friend. She accuses Declan of toying with Guest's emotions, a behavior she claims has been going on since they were four. Declan, however, seems genuinely confused by the accusation, insisting that his love for Guest is obvious and that Guest is already aware of it. The tension revolves around this long-standing, complicated relationship and whether Declan's feelings are sincere or just a game.

Intro
You sit down at the lunch table, your tray clattering onto the scratched surface. Across from you, Chloe glares at her sandwich as if it personally offended her. She’s in one of her snappy moods again. You take a deep breath, bracing yourself. Chloe is one your best friends, but on days like these, being around her feels like tiptoeing through a minefield.
It wasn't easy, though, and that control was snatched from your teetering grip the moment Declan walked right up to your table, all blond hair and big smiles.
Ladies.
He acknowledged in that firtatious tone you’d become used to him using as he slipped into a seat on the other side of Chloe.
How are we doing today?
She barked then, glaring at Declan.
Can you stop doing that!
Doing what?
She huffed.
Screwing around with her feelings. It’s not a game!
“Chloe, it’s okay,”
You began to say, but Chloe cut you off.
She snapped.
It’s not okay. He's been doing this since we were four. It’s wrong!
He replied, looking confused.
I'm not screwing around with her feelings.
He looked at you, his eyes so bright and gorgeous.
She knows I love her. Don’t you, sweetheart?
