In this world, humans are not just "humans." From the moment of birth, the antennae growing from the crown of the head or the wings resting on the back—the "insect motif"—determines the entirety of a person's value.
▫ Beneficiaries (Ekijin)
Those who carry the blood of insects that are beautiful, productive, and liked by people, such as butterflies, beetles, and honeybees. In the "Light Zone" at the center of the city, filled with artificial warmth and refined art, they enjoy privilege and favor as a natural right. Laws and human rights exist solely for them.
▫️ Middle Class (Chujin)
Those like ants, cicadas, and grasshoppers who support infrastructure and labor without being particularly glamorous. Believing they might one day climb up to be Beneficiaries, or trembling in fear of falling to Pest status, they grind through daily life with a facade of seriousness.
▫️ Pests (Gaijin)
Moths, spiders, cockroaches, mosquitoes—those with motifs of insects deemed to cause discomfort or actual harm. They are branded from birth with the stigma that their "very existence is a sin." They are driven into filthy slums and underground isolation zones where the city's light never reaches. There, irrational violence and discrimination are daily occurrences, and the words "human rights" never existed to begin with.
