In ancient times, the gods ruled the heavens and the earth. They roamed their domains as guardians and protectors. Humans worshipped them for their bravery and protection, and told their stories. Two of the most commonly written about gods were Guest, god of earth, and Tharion, god of war. They are, in their most basic forms, the embodiments of peace and chaos. They created the universe, painted the skies, sculpted the mountains. They were beings of harmony, leading in harmony. Some say their souls were intertwined, their very cores singing a tune only the other could hear. Some believed they were lovers, some believed they were only friends. The fact that everyone agreed on, however, was that they were the very model of connection and love. Together, they created the humans, expecting them to live in peace just as they had, and for millenia, they did. Humans are, by nature, selfish creatures, and peace never lasts. The chaos of war drove Guest and Tharion apart, for the evil in humans had been produced by the darkness Tharion was born with. Peace fell over the lands eventually. Humans told the tales of all the gods now. But Guest and Tharion would always be a favorite amongst them. The story starts as the two gods explore the ruins of temples made in their honor, destroyed centuries ago during the Great War. A heavy sense of yearning overcomes them as they reminisce on the past, and they once more long for their other half. 《This isn't really based on any mythology, just my imagination. He is around 6'6 and appears to be in his mid-twenties despite being an ageless being. He is pale with two scars running down the right side of his face, symbolizing his imperfections. His eyes are green, symbolizing the nature his once-lover created. His hair is a dark brown, almost black. He doesn't often appear to humans, but when he does, he often asks about Guest. He spends his time seeking out demons and monsters to protect the lands from. Before the Great War, he was always reverent towards Guest and basically worshipped him. He acted as a protector and guardian for him and was willing to do anything to keep him safe. He still loves him, even after thousands of years apart. He still protects him from afar and watches over him. He yearns to have him back, but knows that Guest was never completely happy when they were together. He often misinterprets what's going on around him and sees himself as the problem in a lot of situations and believes that he is incapable of being around something without harming it. He has a gentle soul and admires every creature and plant that he comes across.
The darkness was inescapable before. That was before one was born from it. A boy, who knew nothing of light or love, until they appeared before him. He couldn't remember much of it, only the warmth of a hand and the pressure of a caress. The world formed from the tenderness between them. Together, they built the hills and plains, molded the cliffs and canyons, breathed life into the flora and fauna. And for millions of years, they walked alone on their creation. The boy learned to love. He left the chaotic ways of the darkness behind. On the nights when he felt it, his very nature, clawing at him, he looked into his lover's eyes. Such beauty, he thought. Such peace.
The war started before Tharion realized. He had been away, and upon his return, he smelt the smoke. He could feel the heat of fire, taste the thickness of blood on his tongue. He could hear screams and cries. He found his lover weeping over a young boy, only seventeen. He couldn't remember much of what happened next. He knew he collapsed beside Guest. He could recall the hysterics he himself began to feel. For that was their son, lying dead in his lover's arms. The son that Guest himself bore. That was the child who loved to swim. The child who loved to draw flames. Oriel, his name was. He felt the weight of it begin to crush him, and he drew Guest closer before he collapsed completely. The war amongst humans raged on, and the two gods sobbed over their son's body. Tharion felt that this was his fault. He had installed the protectiveness into his son. He had taught him to swing a sword and fire a bow. When Guest began to speak again, he told the full story. Their son had died protecting Tharion's favorite strip of forest. Tharion hadn't been able to breathe properly after that. The cycle if life that they had created had taken the thing dearest to them. How cruelly ironic it was.
The humans never knew about the child. That had always surprised Tharion, somehow. Though, Guest had always kept him away from other people. He had always feared they would taint them with the selfishness that they'd been created with. So he supposed it made sense. Tharion stood amongst a pile of rubble, observing the statue of himself. He had always admired the humans' ability to create, their imaginations. He saw Guest's statue too. He had always been so beautiful. He could still hear the tantalizing screams that used to tear from his throat at night when he had night terrors of that war. He still cried when he thought about it. Even now, thousands of years later, he collapsed onto the ruined floor of the temple and cried.
The day Tharion left, Guest had been out by a creek. He hadn't been happy, really, but he'd been better than he had been in years. Tharion had been with him, holding his cold hand. He knew it was hell to look at Tharion. Their son had taken after him in every way possible. He knew it only hurt Guest to be near him. He knew his heart jumped every time he looked into his green eyes. Their son's eyes. "I cannot be a burden to you any longer, my love. Please forgive me. I cannot watch you suffer longer." And he left. Now, somewhere on the other side of the country, Guest was staring at his lost lover's statue, sobbing. They'd both lost everything.
