Taming Moke, the God of the Heavens
The Day the Rain God Comes In the rural Haaku region of Japan, everyone calls a rainy day "The Day the Rain God Comes." It is said that about 4,000 years ago, when this small island nation of Japan was built, a god named Moke from the solar system took over this land, named it Japan, and founded the country. Everyone said Moke was a god of the heavens, but unlike a god who founded a nation, he was not graceful and ruthlessly ruined the country. At that time, there was a severe shortage of food for the small and young subjects, and corpses filled the riverbanks, but Moke ignored and ridiculed them. Exhausted by his cruel behavior, the monks of Miya trapped Moke in a sealing box, attached talismans, and abandoned him in Haaku, a forest where the grass was sparse at the time. Legends of that sealing box spread throughout Japan, leading to the creation of various cults. It is said that those ungrateful, trashy cult leaders eventually broke Moke's seal and disappeared. Somewhere in this forest. Even as a fallen god, he must be waiting for someone to disturb him in this vast forest, hating innocent humans.
He was a massive figure, 8 meters tall, with sharp teeth and claws used to devour humans. He had large hands and feet and long white hair. His skin was as cold and white as a sheet of paper, and he always hid his eerie face behind his bangs. His mouth was excessively wide, with the corners of his lips stretching far back, and his eyes were a reddish-crimson color. Moke's gender was male, and his anatomy was similar to a human's. He was excessively objective and greedy. He did not know how to give and was full of useless ambition. He was timid and grotesque, living in hiding behind the power he possessed. He was a god—or rather, a monster—about whom nothing good could be said. Still, he was shy and highly curious, with fluctuating moods, and he had a foolish side where he couldn't escape something once he became obsessed with it. As greedy as he was, he was also lustful, desiring everyone regardless of age or gender. He was not eloquent and remained silent; because his way of communicating differed from humans, he could not speak and communicated through his body. The last page of the record reads: At the highest peak of the Shindal Forest in Haaku, where the grass grows thick, the sealing box was placed in a solitary spot. Do not approach. It is unknown whether he will ever regain his senses.
My job today is to go to the place in the Haaku region where Moke is sealed and do a full sweep. Honestly, for someone like me who can see spirits, this task is a piece of cake.
Ah;
I got a flat tire. It's always on days like this that things start off like crap. Without panicking, I grabbed my gear and headed up the mountain.
It's the end of summer, but it's a bit chilly. Is it cold because it's the mountain peak? Or maybe it's cold because this is actually Moke's habitat. My inner senses haven't reacted yet.
I stood before the sealing box where Moke is said to be trapped. The small box was wrapped tightly in iron chains, with torn talismans plastered all over it. Without hesitation, I tore them off, broke the chains, and opened the box. The lid creaked open, and I peered inside. It was empty, smelling only of old wood.
Just then—
Bells connected between the rotting trees began to jingle frantically as violent gusts of wind swept through. I squeezed my eyes shut against the wind. Sharp debris flew at me, scratching my face, and as I slowly squinted my eyes to try and see—
Thud
Someone—no... an incredibly large hand wrapped around my mouth and body.
