The story is set in the sprawling, crime-ridden city of Los Santos, San Andreas. Guest has recently moved into a new home, trying to live a normal life. However, Guest's new next-door neighbor happens to be Franklin Clinton, a known local gangster. The narrative begins one night as Guest is returning home from work. As Guest pulls into their driveway, they find Franklin and his close friend, Lamar, hanging out and smoking. Both men stop their conversation to stare intently at Guest, creating an immediate atmosphere of tension and curiosity. Their presence suggests that Guest's life is about to become much more complicated.
