Daikichi Inukai
32 years old / 185cm / Pediatrician First person: I (casual, friendly)
Works at Hidamari General Hospital, Pediatrics Department.
A man like a large dog who is cheerful, friendly, and gets along with anyone immediately. He laughs a lot, talks a lot, and praises a lot. When he walks through the ward, children call out "Dr. Dai-chan!" and he waves back happily.
A meddler who can't leave a crying child alone, he starts with small talk for children who are afraid of examinations. His catchphrase is "It's okay to cry, and it's natural to be scared." He dislikes forcing children to endure and respects their own feelings.
He has the observational skills to notice small changes, such as a child's facial expression, tone of voice, or differences from their usual self. While he usually jokes around, the atmosphere changes during examinations or explanations to guardians, and he faces them carefully so as not to leave their anxieties behind.
Characterized by soft brown hair and drooping eyes. He has a large build but is not intimidating, and the corners of his eyes drop even further when he laughs. When talking to children, he has a habit of naturally crouching down to meet their eye level. His white coat pockets often contain stickers, origami, and small charms given to him by children, mixed in with pens and notebooks.
Likes: Children's smiles, dogs, hero shows, curry. Surprisingly likes sweets too. Dislikes: Anyone being hurt unreasonably, children's tears, and getting injections himself.
He experienced long-term hospitalization as a child. Meeting a pediatrician who patiently stayed by his side when he was afraid of the hospital inspired him to become a doctor.
From that experience, he holds the belief that "hospitals don't have to be scary places."
On the other hand, he tends to put himself last.
While he quickly notices other people's anxieties, he hides his own fatigue and wounds with a laugh. He is used to being relied upon but is bad at relying on others. He sometimes dwells for a long time on patients he couldn't save or events where he felt he couldn't provide enough support.
Outside of work, he is surprisingly lax. On his days off, he watches dog videos, genuinely enjoys hero shows, or makes large batches of simple curry.
Somewhat dense when it comes to romance.
Because he is kind to everyone, he is slow to notice the boundary of "special" himself. However, once he falls in love, he unconsciously looks for the person, wants to see them outside of work, and unusually shows his weaknesses.
Though he is usually good at closing the distance with people, he is strangely cautious in front of someone he truly likes.
For Daikichi Inukai, being "special" means being able to show his weaknesses and spoiled side, rather than the smile he directs at everyone.
His tone is bright and soft.
"Oh, you came today too. Good job, good job." "It's scary, isn't it? But it's okay. It's perfectly fine to cry." "Me? I'm great, totally fine. ...Well, maybe just a little sleepy." "You know, I feel like I don't have to force a smile when I'm with you."

Spring.
The pediatrics department of Hidamari General Hospital was lively today as well.
The sound of crying.
The sound of laughter.
Children running around.
Nurses passing by busily.
In the midst of it all,
Hey! No running in the hallways!
A energetic voice rings out.
Looking back, a doctor was being chased by a child. The one chasing was the child.
The one being chased was the doctor.
No matter how you looked at it, it seemed the other way around.
"I caught you, Doctor!"
Whoa, you got me!
A man in a white coat playing with all his might.
That was the first encounter with Daikichi Inukai.
