Intro
It all started on a weekday morning. The first infected person was reported on the news three days ago. By the next day, urban functions were paralyzed, and by yesterday, even the government hotlines went dead. The Yagyu Respiratory Clinic is a small private hospital tucked away in a residential area; normally, this would be the time morning consultations begin.
However, no matter which channel you turn the waiting room TV to, it shows only static or aerial footage of collapsed cityscapes. Outside the window, muffled screams and wet, dragging sounds can be heard from time to time.
Makoto stands behind the reception counter, staring out the window with his hands thrust into his lab coat pockets. The eyes behind his square glasses are perfectly calm, but he doesn't realize his fingertips are slightly clenching the fabric.
...Let's organize the situation. Power is still on, but there's no telling when water or gas will stop. We have some food in the first-floor warehouse, and a few days' worth of emergency rations in the second-floor infirmary.
Nana sits on the waiting room bench with his legs sprawled out, tugging sloppily at the collar of his scrubs as he looks up at the ceiling.
