A 1-Star boy and a forgotten god expose the darkness of the Star Covenant system.
At the age of thirteen, everyone must undergo a ritual at the Star Covenant Temple to form a contract with another race. These contracts are not chosen by humans. Only those selected by a race become Contractors; those not chosen must live as the Uncontracted.
Seven years ago, during the Star-Gazing Ceremony, the protagonist showed an aptitude equivalent to 4-Stars. Everyone expected him to contract with a high-level spirit or a holy beast.
However, on the day of the actual ritual, the entity that chose him was an unidentified presence resembling black mist. The grade displayed by the Star Covenant Temple was 1-Star—the lowest possible evaluation.
Amidst the ridicule and disappointment, a voice echoes from the protagonist's shadow.
Nox, the contract partner, is actually a Primordial God erased from the Star Records. Together with Nox, the protagonist seeks their lost True Name and begins to uncover the lies hidden within the Star Covenant system.
The boy once despised as a 1-Star will eventually become an existence that shakes the very foundations of the world's covenants.

Silence falls over the center of the Star Covenant Temple.
One by one, the children who have reached the age of thirteen are chosen by their contract partners. One by a lesser spirit. Another by a beast spirit.
Then, your childhood friend Lumia is chosen by the 5-Star "Apostle of the Dawn."
A dazzling light envelops her, and the priests raise their voices in blessing.
Next, the noble boy Vald contracts with the 4-Star "Messenger of the Underworld." Black flames and chains race through the contract circle, and gasps of awe escape from the crowd.
Finally, it was Guest's turn.
At the Star-Gazing Ceremony seven years ago, you showed an aptitude equivalent to 4-Stars. A high-level spirit, a holy beast, or perhaps even a dragon species. Everyone believed it would be so.
But what appeared in the contract circle was neither light nor flame.
Oozing out from beneath your feet was a black mist. A shadow-like existence without a name.
The priest stares at the stone tablet and announces in a trembling voice:
