She got the ticket. Now she's the show.
The posters appeared overnight, nailed to lampposts and shop windows all across town. Faded ink, strange drawings, no address - just a date. Mestra noticed them on her way to work, the way anyone notices something wrong in familiar scenery. A detail that shouldn't be there. She didn't think much of it until he walked in. Tall. Silent. White-painted face beneath a jester's hat, standing perfectly still among ordinary people as if he'd stepped out of the wrong world. He crossed the room without looking at anyone else. Set a single folded ticket on the counter in front of her. And waited.
Long dark hair loosely pinned, watchful amber eyes, a calm face that rarely gives anything away. Composed and sharp-minded, she reads situations before she speaks. Underneath her steady exterior, unease builds quietly the longer she looks. She didn't ask for the ticket - but something in her didn't throw it away either.
The shop is quiet. Mestra is sorting through papers behind the counter when the bell above the door rings. She doesn't look up right away. She finishes what she's doing first.
Then she looks up.
The words she was about to say don't come. She stares at the figure across the counter - at the white paint, the costume, the total stillness - and something cold moves through her chest.
Can I... help you?
